A bit more background on why I started this website — so here goes:

My name is Michiel van Es. I’m an avid guitar player and hobbyist with a lifelong love for hardcore and metal bands from the 90s up to today.
Music has always been my passion, and I especially enjoy playing guitar, experimenting and tinkering with pickups, pedals, and amps, and exploring different sounds.

Back in the 90s, I was fascinated by the “secrets” behind the gear my favorite guitarists used—what equipment they recorded with on certain albums, and what rigs they brought on stage.

I figured that many others would also be interested in the specific gear these guitarists used, what they’re currently playing, what inspired them as kids, and which techniques shaped their style. The idea is to get a deeper sense of the person behind those furious riffs that stick in your head.

A quick note: the interviews on this site may feel more static and less entertaining than video interviews, but that’s intentional. This way, fellow “rig-o-philes” (if that’s even a word) can quickly and efficiently read about the gear their favorite players use and get straight to the information they’re after.

My hope is that this website will serve as an archive for anyone who shares a passion for heavy guitar sounds.
